2021 U17 Minor Football Championship Round Two

This second round minor div 2/3 game was played at Shananhan-McNamara GAA pitch Doonbeg Monday 30th of August.

The host team Doonbeg suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of St Breckan's, without the services of their star county U17 player Darragh Burns it proved to be a tough 60 minutes of championship football.

St Breckan's also had injury worries to deal with as midfielder McDara Garrihy failed a late fitness test and then took his place on the subs bench. Some switches made to the line-up saw Sean Stack introduced in to the full forward line. Ronan Fitzpatrick was also drafted in at left corner back for James Costello from the previous game

The first few minutes of this game was very interesting and it was played at a blistering pace, Lorcan Doolin opened the scoring with a point from play and Aidan O'Loughlin soon registered a wide from play. Doonbeg had a free from a tight angle kicked over the bar by midfielder Gavin O'Shea and also registered their first wide also from play. From here on to the first water break St Breckan's took full advantage and scored 1:03 without reply.

The early exchanges of the second quarter were tough hard hitting. After two early wides, one each from both teams. St Breckan's soon settled, as Doonbeg let St Breckan's midfielder Padraig O'Dwyer in for a second goal and Dara Howley hit a bullet of a shot which skimmed the cross bar and went over for a point, these are two of the highlights of this second fifteen minutes up to half time.
