2021 U17 Minor Football Championship Round One

St Breckan's 4:08 Cooraclare 1:10

Referee Michael Talty (Kilmurry Ibrickane)

This first round minor div 2/3 game was played at St Breckan's GAA pitch Lisdoonvarna on Monday 23rd of August, with the evenings closing in an 18:45 throw in time was needed to get proceedings underway. Immediately from the start St Breckan's stamped authority on the game with an early attack on goal by Noah McNamara but this shot went wide of the target. Lorcan Doolin got thru the Cooraclare defence to score a point from play but only for this to be cancelled out at the other end by a point from a free from the centre forward Finn Driscoll. From here on in to the water break it was level on two more occasions, Lorcan Doolin scored two points from play and Finn Driscoll had made the same impression on the game by kicking two points also from play.

After this now famous water break which makes the game in to a four-quarter format, it looked like the trend was going to continue as Lorcan Doolin hit the net from play and Cooraclare goaled just minutes later. After good work all throughout the field Aidan O'Loughlin also found the net and the momentum was now with St Breckan's as they were to take ownership of the game and scored another goal and three points without reply to leave the half time score 3:06 to 1:03. Aidan O'Loughlin got his second goal of the night in this scoring spree also Lorcan Doolin chipped in with two points from play and McDara Garrihy also raised the white flag.

A very different team came back to the game in the second half as the team talk must have revitalised the game plan as Coorclare imposed severe attacking treats moving forward swiftly on all occasions. James Costello scored a peach of a point from play but the game was about to changed dramatically as Cooraclare kicked five unanswered points in a row and were unlucky on two occasions not to find the net, Jake Garry had his first of the night from play while Finn Driscoll kept the score board ticking by scoring one from play and one from a free. Mark Hehir also had a long-range effort close the gap.

The final quarter showed renewed energy in the St Breckan's team, even though a few scores were missed this still kept pressure on Cooraclare who were still playing catch up at this stage, Lorcan Doolin scored his sixth point of the night bringing his tally to (1:06) from play.

Cooraclare had a point from play and Finn Driscoll scored the last point from a free to bring his tally to (0:06). There was tension all in the closing stage but substitute Cathal Morgan put the game out of reach of Cooraclare as his shot from thirty yards dipped when it entered the square and slotted in to the net over the Cooraclare keeper's head.
