A blistering 60 minutes of football saw Clooney-Quin romp to a 14-point victory and claim 2 points on offer in this round 1 division 5 league fixture played at Clooney-Quin GAA grounds Sunday March 19th. A 16:30 start was the time as players and mentors from the host club were tied up with U21b Hurling earlier in the day.
The home side weathered an early storm in the opening half to kick on and finish on an impressive half time score of 1:06 to 0:03 pts, the goal coming from full forward Patrick Tiernan from play mid-way through the half, Ballyvaughan-Fanore kicked 8 wides in total in the half.
Ballyvaughan-Fanore started off with Tomas Francis in goal as Damien McNamara moved to full forward. Scion Flanagan made his debut in the adult jersey at wing forward and made an impression on proceeding’s from early on, but it was very clear from the off Clooney-Quin were the fitter team probably due to the early start to the Hurling season and it was Ballyvaughan-Fanore’s first outing.
Ballyvaughan-Fanore came back on to the field in confidence but on the back of spurning 5 goal chances alone in the second half while two were conceded one in each half. Damien McNamara stopped a certain goal chance in the second half but could not do much about the goal scored by Tom McGrath but the game was over as a contest by then.
Neil Walsh and Jamie Hynes at midfield were the Ballyvaughan-Fanore’s scorer in chiefs with two points each from play.
